Hello, and Welcome!

My name is Victoria Sierra Valdez I currently live in Douglas City, CA with my boyfriend and two cats in beautiful Trinity County. I am pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication and Media Studies at Arizona State University and I am taking MCO 425: Digital Media Literacy 1 because it is a class required to take to fulfill my major requirements. More than that, I was intrigued by the contents of the class and to become more media literate myself. Working at my local newspaper I feel since news is always changing and attitudes and opinions are always shifting, becoming media literate is an incredibly important skill to have in this current media climate. I am hoping by taking this course I will be able to practice media literacy in my career and apply what I have learned in conversations with colleagues or even family and friends who may not understand what media literacy is.

P.S. For anyone already subscribed to my blog, I will be using this site to post blog assignments for my Digital Media Literacy 1 class. Looking at the syllabus, we will be going over topics such as net neutrality, misinformation, persuasion culture, and much more. If you are interested in what media literacy is or want to follow along with what I am learning in this class, feel free to read my posts! If not, simply turn off email notifications for the next few months, otherwise, thank you and I look forward to navigating this class with you all!

I look forward to reading what you discover in your media classes. Those sound like great classes in good timing with all the different news outlets that are covering very critical topics that can affect our views in our democracy or general criminal justice. Best wishes mija.
